2013/2014 work

Out of Frame

Our spatial experiences are omni-directional in nature, and yet these are fragmented in counterpart two-dimensional forms of representation – photographs, planar drawings, model renders. In response the project investigated the ‘Out of Frame’ experiences and methods of drawing these. The design has been inspired by the musical workings of John Cage, taking a route through chance explorations with materials, working with the space behind, out of view, and through reflection. The project integrates these components inside a theatre and teaching facility underground, sited amongst the troglodyte vernacular of Matera in Italy.
