Folding, Wrapping, Loading (Market and Apartments, Liverpool)

The first semester pavilion: a perforated and folded wrapping wall and canopy structure, generated by a reflection machine and adapted to many sites, but settling outside the Hayward Gallery, is recombined with a not-quite-regular dotty grid, to develop the proposal for Semester 2.  At first, these tactics move simply into a covered market, but developed more tectonically and at different scale, the system gains mass and complexity. The layered market structure (part open, part ‘wrapped’) then extends upwards as the basis of a faintly expressionist-modernist apartment block – and down into the year’s most seductive loading bay.
